I read two things online yesterday which were useful on their own, but I think together spell something really interesting. The first was a blog post entitled "Reinventing Marketing: An Introduction." The post talks about how "technology has shaken the foundations of marketing in several distinct and profound ways." It states some somewhat self-evident stuff, but it's worth repeating that the world of marketing is rapidly changing, and that the Internet is a huge contributor to this.

The next bit I saw that was interesting was an article on Forbes.com entitled, "E-Commerce Gets Smart." The gist of the article is that online retail is finally starting to grow in ways that make sense, and will rack up huge sales this year. In fact, the article states that "the online-retail industry is expected to roughly double annual sales to more than $300 billion over the next four years, according to many estimates."

Of course, the two articles relate to each other because there's a great opportunity right now since marketing techniques are becoming more interesting and Web-savvy, at the same time that online retail sales are going to be their highest ever. Our job is to build a bridge between the two...
