Hot Dog, Almost Home
It's sunset in Ames, Iowa, and tomorrow morning, we make the last leg on our tour and wind up back at home. I'll post the exact mileage amount tomorrow, but we'll have seen about 3,800 miles of interstate countryside in the last two weeks, through Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, and Iowa.
Today in Des Moines, I visited with members of the Iowa office of my old law firm, Faegre & Benson, where I served as marketing director for almost eight years. What, you ask, does a law firm marketing director do? Well, here's a photo from one of my visits to Des Moines a few years ago.
Just click on the photo and enlarge it. Yes, that's a someday-to-be-famous author hiding behind a hot dog gun at an Iowa Cubs game. Now you see why I'm so comfortable among adoring fans. :-)
One of the lawyers in the Des Moines office is a part owner of the Cubs franchise, and I got recruited into running the hot dog gun at a game. If you're ever in the same position, a little advice: Aim high. You don't want to behead a small child with a foil-wrapped hot dog.
We also got a personal tour of the impressive new Des Moines downtown library facility. I'll be doing a presentation at the library sometime next year.
More reflections on the tour soon, but for the time being, we're glad to have home on the horizon.
